Aihe: Humanitarian disarmament event in Berlin 23rd and 24th of january
Dear fellow Changemakers,
My name is Haakon Gjerløw, and I am leader of the Political Council for Peace in Changemaker Norway. This email is a tip/commercial/spam for an event in Berlin in January which is probably relevant for those of you who work with disarmament issues. If you don't want to read everything in the email below, just visit http://berlinsessions.eu/ ;)
We will be there with two people from Norway.

ICAN and partners are happy to invite you to the Berlin Sessions on Humanitarian Disarmament. Please find more info and opportunity to register your interest at http://berlinsessions.eu/
In the past several years, the trend in disarmament has been towards protecting civilians against humanitarian harm. The humanitarian justification led to the successful adoption of the Mine Ban Treaty, the Convention on Cluster Munitions and most recently, the Arms Trade Treaty. The cooperation between humanitarian practitioners and disarmament advocates saves lives. In the past two years, in the margins of the UN General Assembly First Committee campaigners from across the arms control, humanitarian and disarmament movements have come together to share best practices, lessons learned, and more.
To build on this cooperation and reinforce the humanitarian disarmament perspective in Europe, several European partners of the International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear weapons (ICAN) are organising the Berlin Sessions on Humanitarian Disarmament. The conference will take place in Berlin on 23-24 January 2014.
The programme for the session includes a mix of lightning talks, expert panels, interactive parallel sessions and side events. These will include themes such as indiscriminate effects of weapons, evidence based approaches, past successes and emerging challenges.
